How to take amazing baby photos from a top baby and newborn photographer in Perth?
1. Get in CLOSE and personal
Most new moms and dads of a newborn baby never shoot a close-up. Close-up is one of the most important photographs at this age! Fill the frame with your baby’s face. Avoid the lamps and unwashed dishes in the background. Avoid clutter. A good close-up of your babies photos will be worth gold in years! Take a look at all the top baby photographers in perth. Not one will not have a close-up photo on their websites main page.
2. Click and click
Keep on clicking. Babies are very active. They are so full of energy, they seems to vibrate in our pictures. Take a lot of pictures. It’s a game of getting lucky with that one expression that just grabs your attention. The more you click your camera, the luckier you will get. When we take baby photos at our studio in Perth, we keep shooting. Our newborn and baby photography is amazing. Yes, we have the experience, but we also know if we took 200 images vs 20, we will win hands down.
3. Experiment with the flash off
Be careful of overuse of your flash. Be careful of getting harsh black shadows behind your baby. This will ruin your baby photos. Experiment with your camera without using your flash. You can also make use of a tripod. Nothing like a sleeping baby in moonlight that is being photographed! It creates that loving and romantic light on your baby. Use your flash selectively. Rather use natural light around. Do not take pictures in a dark area. You will get the red –eye syndrome.
4. Find beautiful light
One of the best ways of getting amazing and that wow factor baby photo’s. You will need what all professional baby photographers now they are looking for. If you want to shoot beautiful baby portraits this may one of the best tips for taking baby photos. With your flash off, put your baby in some soft window light or the light of an open, outside door. Do not do this in the middle of the day as the light might be to bright and burn out your babies skin tones. Your skill levels will increase. Play with the natural light.
5. Pick your battles carefully
Take the baby photos when they are at their best mood. Some babies are morning babies, some needs a nap first and some needs a feed first. Pick your battles. Get into the mood for the new born or family photos.
6. Keep your backgrounds simple
Try and keep the background clear and neat. It’s not nice with a broomstick sticking out of your child’s head. Find a quite spot and look what’s behind the spot you have chosen. Make sure if you start shooting you do not get tunnel vision by just focusing on your beautiful baby, look behind and around your baby. If you do any editing on your photos, this will save you hours of editing.
7. Take advantage of the moment
You have the unfair advantage every professional baby and newborn photographers dream of and that’s the time to see it all happen. Keep your camera in the same spot with easy access should you see a moment. You will only have a few seconds to flick on the switch. Do not forget to keep your cameras settings correct.
8. Set your ISO correctly
Keep in mind that the higher the ISO, the more noise (grain) will be on your photos. Depending on your camera, you can shoot up to 400 ISO easily. We sometimes add some noise to give some baby photos extra feeling and to make them stand out.
9. File numbering your photos
You will be taking thousands of pictures of your new born baby. Get to use a simple but easy to understand filing system. Use maybe your babies name and the date or month. Create maybe file for events. Example: Birth.
10. Back up your baby pictures
Always back-up your photos to at least two places. Maybe burn a set to DVD and also to an external hard disk drive. External drives have become very affordable. Some photographers even keep 3 sets. The key is, back up regularly. Do this as often as you can.
We trust you have found these 10 tips handy and useful. We will gladly take your babies pictures for the next few photo sessions.
