Destination Weddings and wedding photographers

Top ten tips from Studio 777 professional photographers on what a bride and groom need to know before their wedding.

  • Set a budget on what you expect to pay for a LOCAL WEDDING and work out the cost of how much you would prefer to spend on a Destination wedding. Make a list with 2 columns of all the events and items that need to be covered. One listed as Local Wedding and one listed as Destination wedding. This will give you an idea of the cost differences. Keep in mind that your guest will most probably have to incur far greater expenses to get to your wedding. Cost of flights, accommodation and transport all adds up. The one advantage of a destination wedding is that it will help keep your number of attending guest down due to the additional cost.

  • Should you use All-inclusive VS Not all-inclusive venue.  The main factor between the two is cost. One great thing on the all-inclusive packages is that you would not be required to worry or stress about most things as it is all-inclusive. On a not inclusive package you can save $$$ and be on a BUDGET WEDDING. There is however more to keep in mind and organise. Organising a wedding over the ocean is already testing on it’s own, in a foreign country you do not know even where the nearest fill station is. It might be even more challenging for a new wedding couple.

  • Best location and date to go with that. Always look at the location. Keep in mind the time of year you are getting married and look at the weather charts. Look at expected rainfall and any weather patterns for that season such as tornadoes or hurricanes, etc. Select a backdrop like a majestic castle, ocean view or something off the beaten track such as a safari ride in Africa or a boat cruise around the world.

  • Plan for your guest totals. There is normally around 15 to 20% of no shows. The airlines use the same formula when they book your tickets. That is why sometimes they are over booked. Many venues and airlines provide you with a discount rate should you book a certain amount of attendees.

  • Wedding Invitations. There are some wedding sites that you can use to also “save the date” for your wedding invites. Only make this live and send your invites out once you have book and confirmed your venue, location and date. You should also have booked your wedding photographers and wedding videographers.

  • Wedding coordinators are sometimes provided at certain venues. They become your trusted “maid of honor” that really assists you in making your wedding day a memorable one. They can save you valuable time and money. They can do all the research and negotiations on your behalf.

  • Will your marriage be legal should you return from your destination wedding? There are a few legal requirements that you must keep in mind.  Find out from your destination venue what are the requirements. Also check with your local authority to make sure you are really getting “legally” married. Remember to take all the documents they require with you.

  • Back up plan number two and three. Always have at least 1. You never know what can happen. Should there be a delay in flights or cancellation of flights or scheduled departures from a harbor, put a contingency plan in place, just incase. Remember, it’s a wedding! There is always a possibility that something might not go 100% according to plan.

  • Get EVERYTHING in writing. There might be changes in ownership and changes in structure. Make sure you get everything from day one regarding your wedding in writing. Keep it all NEATLY together in one file.

  • Remember to plan your honeymoon! The bride and groom are sometimes so mesmerised by their location that they forget to plan for what they will be doing during their honeymoon. Do something special… and enjoy every moment.
